- ἰαίνω, aor. ἴ̄̌ηνα, pass. ῖάνθη (ῖ when with augment): warm, soften by warming, Od. 12.175; met., warm, melt, move the heart to compassion, cheer, etc., Od. 15.379; often thus in pass., θῦμός, κῆρ, Il. 23.598, Od. 22.59; μέτωπον ἰάνθη, ‘brightened,’ Il. 15.103; also w. acc. of specification, θῦμόν, φρένας, ψ , Od. 24.382; w. dat., Od. 19.537.
